MEP Nikolas Farantouris, a member of the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs and the Subcommittee on Security and Defence, has issued an urgent intervention following reports of pogroms targeting Greek Orthodox populations in Western Syria over the last few hours.
Specifically, reports indicate that massacres and pogroms are currently raging across Christian neighborhoods in Western Syria, concentrated near Latakia, the Valley of the Christians (Wadi al-Nasara), and the city of Al-Suqaylabiyah.
“The information reaching me is dramatic, and we cannot turn a blind eye,” Farantouris stated.
“Greece, the EU, and the international community must stand firm against the persecutions and violence perpetrated by the Jolani regime.”
The Greek MEP called upon the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to take immediate action. He further announced that on Monday, March 30, he will submit a formal intervention to the European Commission and the High Representative for Foreign Affairs, demanding a full investigation and an official diplomatic protest to the Syrian government.

Mr. Kyriakos Mitsotakis,
I write to you from the town of ancient Seleucia, known today as Suqaylabiyah.
Do not leave us alone in the face of these Turkish-backed armed groups. We, and the generations before us, have never abandoned our Antiochian Greek heritage. For this… pic.twitter.com/dDCAsEuxkE
