A comprehensive program of specific actions for the 2026-2027 period was presented on May 6th by the cultural association “Greek Linguistic Heritage” during a press conference held at the Athens Daily Newspaper Journalists’ Union (Journalists’ Union of Athens Daily Newspapers – JUADN). The program was introduced by the President and Vice-President of the association, entrepreneur Nikos Papapostolou and author-poet Christos Belles, respectively.

Additional remarks were provided by board members Anastasia Basta (philologist and author), Maria Tsimpoura (Supreme Court attorney), and George Poukamissas (Ambassador ad honorem).

Referring to the goals and future initiatives of the association, Nikos Papapostolou emphasized that:

“The Greek language is the ideal vehicle for concepts, knowledge, information, and opinions; it is the medium for expressing emotions and the essential prerequisite for dialogue. It is a living system of communication between people, evolving over time and forging new paths and horizons.”

Mr. Papapostolou further noted:

“The Greek language is the intangible outward appearance of the man of letters, clothing his creations with form and breath, rendering them immortal through the passage of time. It stands between thought as mental processing and speech as its expression; we can linguistically express anything we can mentally process, and conversely, we can only think what we can express through language. Within this delicate refinement and cultivation of ‘thinking’ lies the magic of the Greek language.”

For her part, Maria Tsimpoura underlined that:

“Greek Linguistic Heritage is an association that does not view language as a closed field for specialists, but as a living space for action, interaction, meeting, and participation. The association addresses everyone, with a particular emphasis on the younger generation—the active shapers of the present and the bearers of the future. We are here for actions involving education, art, theater, and culture—initiatives that are open and participatory for all.”

She concluded:

“Our vision is for young children to think and speak the Greek language not as something ancient, but as a modern tool for thought and creation. It is a language that shapes how we perceive the world, innovation, and even the global economy in the era of Artificial Intelligence.”

Christos Belles detailed the upcoming actions scheduled by the association, which will cover cultural sectors such as poetry, theater, and the work of great Greek writers and literati, including Papadiamantis, Kriaras, Palamas, Christianopoulos, and others.

Additionally, Anastasia Basta placed particular emphasis on the cultural dimension of the Greek language as a factor for social and family balance, highlighting the challenge of adapting to the new demands of the digital age and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

The discussion was moderated by the association’s other Vice-President, journalist Athanasios Papandropoulos.

Greetings were delivered by Antonis Kounadis (former President of the Academy of Athens and Honorary President of the association), Dr. Alfred Barich (former AHEPA Governor for Europe), Apostolos Vouldis (former President of the Journalists’ Union of Peloponnese, Epirus, and the Islands), and Themis Beredimas (President of the Periodical and Electronic Press Journalists’ Union). The two journalists pledged their support for the association’s work and its efforts toward the universal promotion of the Greek language during a period of intense technological change and geopolitical realignments.
