UAE Strengthens Sustainability Ties with Greece through Zayed Sustainability Prize Meetings

The Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Greece, under the leadership of H.E. Dr. Ali Obaid Al Dhaheri, has played a pivotal role in advancing UAE-Greece cooperation through sustained diplomatic and strategic cooperation. As part of these efforts, His Excellency the Ambassador is supporting a high-level visit to Greece this week by a delegation promoting the “Zayed Sustainability Prize”.

To mark the occasion, the Embassy hosted a special event focused on sustainable cooperation, bringing together representatives from Greece’s leading research centers, innovation ecosystems, incubators, and universities. The gathering provided a platform for dialogue on advancing sustainability-driven partnerships and highlighted the importance of collaboration between the two friendly countries UAE – Greece on this path.

The event also served to raise awareness about the Zayed Sustainability Prize and its mission to recognize and reward innovative solutions that promote sustainability across the categories of Health, Food, Energy, Water, Climate Action, and Global High Schools. The visit and associated engagements reflect the UAE’s ongoing commitment to building bridges with international communities in pursuit of a more sustainable future for all.

Led by Dr. Lamya Fawwaz, Executive Director of Brand & Strategic Initiatives at Masdar and Director of the Prize, the delegation engaged in a series of strategic meetings with key government institutions and stakeholders. This visit underscored the UAE’s commitment to fostering international collaboration and encouraging broader global participation in the Zayed Sustainability Prize, a leading global award that recognizes innovative and impactful sustainability initiatives.

The Prize delegation met with the Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports; the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy; the Ministry of Environment and Energy; and the Ministry for Rural Development and Food. These meetings aimed to strengthen awareness of the Zayed Sustainability Prize among Greek institutions and encourage eligible small and medium enterprises (SMEs), nonprofit organisations (NPOs) and high schools across Greece to apply ahead of the 23 June 2025 deadline.

During these discussions, the Prize team showcased previous winning innovations and shared guidance on how to apply, while also exploring opportunities for partnerships that can amplify Greek participation in future award cycles.

The Zayed Sustainability Prize is the UAE’s pioneering award for innovative solutions to global challenges. A tribute to the legacy and vision of the UAE’s founding father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the Prize aims to drive sustainable development worldwide.

Each year, across the Health, Food, Energy, Water, Climate Action and Global High Schools categories, the Prize rewards organisations and high schools for their groundbreaking solutions to our planet’s most pressing needs.

Through its 128 winners, in 17 years, the Prize has positively impacted over 400 million lives across the globe, inspiring innovators to amplify their impact, and chart a sustainable future for all.
